The Draw

UFC Open Workouts in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - MAY 02: Tyron Woodley performs ahead of a crowd during the UFC Fight Night Open.

Former UFC champion and one among the best welterweights in MMA history, Tyron Woodley returns for the primary time since he lost his title to Kamaru Usman in March 2019.

Woodley is going to be facing the streaking Gilbert Burns within the main event.

Burns has won five fights during a row which includes a first-round TKO convert Demian Maia in March. Woodley is 38 years old, and there are questions on whether he can still perform a high level.

The 33-year-old Burns is seemingly in his prime, and he brings augmented striking skills to go with his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu prowess. The matchup makes for a stimulating main event.

The Co-Main Event

UFC Fight Night: Cowboy v Gaethje

As younger heavyweights go, the 29-year-old Augusto Sakai is one among the brighter of the up-and-comers. The rugged Brazilian has secured 11 of his 13 wins by TKO, and he makes no bones about his intentions within the Octagon.

He’s coming off a first-round KO convert Marcin Tybura within the first round back in September 2019 and searching to run his MMA record to 15-1.

UFC 244: Weigh-Ins

Standing in his way is Bulgarian heavyweight Blagoy Ivanov. While short for the heavyweight division, Ivanov’s chin and overall toughness are exemplary. He got the short end of the stick during a close decision defeat against Derrick Lewis in his last fight and has proven to be nearly unfakeable within the stand-up.

This is a superb test for Sakai and a chance for Ivanov to win and earn himself another shot at a Top-5 heavyweight in his next fight.
